SKIN WEEK 2

Hi!

It’s a lovely morning with the church bells and praise in the air like -heeeyy. The sun’s not out, a bit of hurricane-like breeze. Everything is grand…then I look down on my hands I was using to write my Literature study notes…can you say ashy?

Gross right? Told ya.

But yeah, I had a biological realization at that very moment that the skin is the largest organ and the only one we apply Aveeno and Coco shea butter lotion to. Imagine applying lotion to your liver?

ANYWAY, I decided that our skin is very important so I’m gonna share with you some products that improve skin 100%! (wish I could apply the emoji here) and don’t worry I’m in Jamaica so all these products are local and accessible.

Starting with ……..

AVEENO!

This baby has been my lifesaver for about…  12 years now? Jennifer Aniston does not over-exaggerate in her commercials about how powerful it is.

(For those who live under a stone and are not quite aware of this oh-so-famous advertisement) She would say things like:

“Start a busy day with a positive attitude and positively radiant skin”

“My advice for looking younger longer…get your beauty sleep and use Aveeno” So my question is, who wouldn’t take advice from Thee Jennifer Aniston? I mean- look at her skin:

…And she’s 48. Okay?

Besides Jennifer’s 100% credibility, the science behind Aveeno’s Brand line  is that it offers products to treat skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis,  chickenpox , hives, and sunburn. Some of the active ingredients are as follows:

1. Oats

Oatmeal baths have long been recommended for people with a variety of sensitive skin conditions. That’s because the special properties of oat give it an enhanced ability to absorb moisture and relieve dry, itchy, irritated skin.

2. Soy

Aveeno uses soy’s benefits to even skin tone and texture.

3. Blackberries These berries enhance the healthy, youthful appearance of skin.

4. Wheat (mostly in Aveeno’s hair product line)

The optimal blend of wheat protein and wheat germ oil and allows products to target damaged areas of hair.

5. Seaweed (hair products)

Seaweed is known to be rich in vitamins, proteins and minerals. This allows Aveeno to effectively remove impurities without over-drying or over-moisturizing, to leave hair shinier, healthier looking and more manageable.

Other ingredients include: Feverfew, Shiitake, Southernwood and Lotus.

Here are some Aveeno products you should probably look at:

AVEENO Daily Moisturizing Body Yogurt Lotion Vanilla & Oats

AVEENO Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm

AVEENO ULTRA-CALMING Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum

AVEENO PURE RENEWAL Shampoo

These are sold in most Pharmacies or Supermarkets.

Next on our must have list:

African Black Soap

The countless number of products we go through trying to find something that works for our skin is appalling. I have been in the position many of you are in now, trying and failing to find a great cleanser, wasting money on products that only make your skin worse. But once I found black soap my worries were finally over. It is a magical product developed  in Ghana made of  plantain skins, palm tree leaves, shea tree bark, and cocoa pods and infused with shea butter, palm oil, coconut oil, and honey among other ingredients. It is then left in the African sun to cure for two weeks. It is pure black gold. I never knew there was a product good for your acne, eczema, and psoriasis and excellent in fading skin discolorations, relieving dry and irritated skin, and evening out your skin texture and tone. Not to mention it can also be used as a shaving cream on the face and legs to alleviate razor burns, what’s even better is that it can be used on your entire body  and even as a shampoo for your hair! What more could you possibly need? A general rule of thumb is to buy authentic black soap which is a brownish colour.  You can find this magical soap in any pharmacy, Discount Beauty, or Earth Elements.

TONER

I swear on all that is skin care that if you haven’t already bought a toner for yourself you need to get one asap! Not only does it remove debris like oil and traces of makeup, but it soothes, repairs, and smooths the skin’s surface—diminishing blemishes and minimizing signs of redness and inflammation. It also preps the skin for other treatments and serums. You might be thinking that toners are only for greasy or acne- prone skin but you couldn’t be more wrong. There are many different types of toners on the market today that cater to different types of skin such as ones for acne-prone skin that contain exfoliating ingredients like amino acids or glycolic acid or even ones for sensitive skin types made with soothing thermal spring water. As a general rule alcohol- free formulas are recommended since it can be extremely drying. While it is true that overuse of toners can cause your pores to overproduce oil, it is safe to apply a toner once to twice daily after cleansing especially if you’re oily. If your skin is on the drier side however, stick to just using it at night. By doing so, you’ll be removing any pore-clogging impurities that will further saturate your skin during your eight hours of snooze time and instead help your skin in its nightly renewal process. There are many inexpensive toners on the market today, even D.I.Y toners such as apple cider vinegar.

I recommend that you visit Earth Elements Jamaica for a wide range of products to choose from.

Water

You must be wondering, all this talk about products used on the surface of your skin but what about foods that we can ingest that will work wonders for our skin. “There’s a growing body of research showing that diet really does affect your complexion,” says Jessica Wu, MD, a dermatologist in Los Angeles and author of Feed Your Face. “What you eat can affect your hormone balance, cause acne, and create or lessen inflammation, which is associated with skin aging.” It comes as no surprise then that water is one of the most important ingredients to radiant looking skin. Water keeps your skin super hydrated and is essential to maintain the optimum skin moisture and deliver essential nutrients to skin cells. Many people don’t know this but it’s also the perfect replacement for expensive anti-aging treatments since it keeps the skin well hydrated and glistening, therefore enhancing the complexion. Drinking enough water combats skin disorders like psoriasis, wrinkles and eczema. It also increases the metabolic rate and improves digestive system to flush out toxins from the body. This in turn gives you a healthy and glowing skin. It’s never a bad thing to have healthy glowing skin. The best thing about water is how inexpensive it is, it’s literally everywhere. If you’re not drinking enough water in your daily life you really should make an effort to, it can only benefit you in the long run, that’s the only reason why I bother carrying around a 2L sized bottle of water everyday.

THAT’ S ALL FOR THIS WEEK FOLKS! HOPE YOU FOUND THIS ARTICLE USEFUL FOR ANY SKIN DILEMMAS YOU MAY BE FACING RIGHT NOW 🙂
